Vash opened his mouth to explain that when JuLai was destroyed, Nai had already fallen away, flesh flayed from his bones by the discharge of energy that Vash hadn't been able to contain, and the destruction had been all, and only, Vash, but the image in his memory of what Nai had looked like. Nai is dead. You killed him.. It all made him need to double up again, bile rising fast in his throat.

But then there was someone else, another Vash, and he dug his fingers into the sand, gripping the tiny flakes so hard that he could feel them sink into the flesh of his palm he had wounded earlier, himself. The sharp sensation anchored him, and after a moment so did the hand at his back. His left hand reached to touch the elbow of that arm. I heard you.

"Ah... sorry. I was brought to recall some things that I'm... apparently not strong enough to just smile away. It's fine, nothing immediate, no danger imminent." Refusing to even come close to touching his powers unless absolutely necessary, at least the powers he unleashed that night, counted , sort of, as being in control of them, right?

Something Wolfwood had said earlier registered. July was destroyed on the same date in their world, also. It helped him focus, and even while his stomach was far from settled, it was easier to handle.

To ignore.

"You all right, yourself?"

He wasn't fully sure, not at this distance, that it was the Vash they met back in December, but the lack of shock at Wolfwood's presence suggested that it might be.

IF so, at least this wouldn't be the first impression of him. Because now he was feeling self-conscious and guilty, for being unable to handle himself. On top of everything else.
