Vash blinked, surprised a little. "What happened to..." A breath out, even as he held on the arms around him with his right arm, in turn. "It's all right, if it's not your story to tell." One more person to worry about, but then again, given the way Nico had reacted on the sand steamer, he was already worried.
Then he froze, slightly. You didn't destroy anyone's lives. "The crater where JuLai used to be would beg to differ." It was not really an argument, he was really too drained for one, but even if he understood Wolfwood's argument about the Crash - understanding being different from accepting deep inside, but it was a start - there was so much he had messed up, after. Irreparably.
But then he could focus on Wolfwood coming to the realization of just horrible what he had done back in December had been, and he winced. "It's why I put myself between you. I couldn't allow you to do it. For both your sakes. Everything felt so much, so raw, not thinking clearly was just how we all were." He had tried. But, perhaps, it had been too late when he managed to break himself out.
"You both wanted to protect Vash. You are the adult, and you understand that. He... will need to be reassured, probably over and over again. One day, I hope, in this place where things are a little better, in a way, that it will help him be less afraid. Of everyone. And that includes you."
He couldn't take away that pain. There was nothing that he could say that would make Wolfwood feel less guilty. In a way... they were both helpless against so much that burdened the other.
