It's one of the more important things right now as far as he's concerned, and that the man in red already understands what he's asking without him having to actually ask entirely is kind of a relief! That didn't sound like a negative response to him either, so perhaps they didn't share Knives' misanthropic views. He can't just leave if someone might have survived it, it's his fault they got attacked at all.

Even his stump isn't hurting quite as much! He's fine, obviously! He can even stuff the meal bar down in a couple bites just to free up his hand and try not to choke on crumbs.
